How Does OpenRoaming Compare to Captive Portals?
Here's why so many venues are making the switch
| What matters | OpenRoaming | Captive Portal |
|---|---|---|
| How fast they connect | Instantly (under 1 second) | 30-60 seconds of waiting |
| How secure it is | WPA3-Enterprise | Wide open network |
| How annoying it is | Zero hassle | Forms, terms, passwords... |
| Support headaches | Barely any | Constant "WiFi's not working" calls |
| IoT devices | Work great | Good luck with that |
| WiFi Calling | Works perfectly | Usually doesn't work |
| Coming back next time | Connects automatically | Start all over again |

Got Questions? We've Got Answers
Do my guests need to download an app?
Nope! OpenRoaming works right out of the box on iPhones, Android phones, Windows PCs, and Macs. If someone's got OpenRoaming credentials, their device connects on its own.
Can I keep my captive portal too?
Absolutely! Lots of venues run both — OpenRoaming for the smooth automatic experience, plus a captive portal as a backup for devices that don't have OpenRoaming set up yet.
Will it work with my access points?
Probably! Any access point that supports Passpoint or Hotspot 2.0 will work. That includes Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus, Meraki, Cambium, and most business-grade APs.
How long until I'm up and running?
Most folks are live within a day. You'll just point your access points to our servers and upload a Passpoint profile — no fancy infrastructure needed.
Can I try it before I buy?
You bet! Start a free trial and test everything on your network before you decide if it's right for you.
What's this going to cost me?
OpenRoaming comes included with our Employee WiFi plan. You pay per user per month, and there are no setup fees or long contracts to worry about.
